Volvo changed the sparkplugs for the 3.2 If you do a part number search from Volvo I think you will find 31286359 is the latest part number Note: My 2010 S80 and my 2008 LR2 did not come with these plugs originally Looking at the picture Upper Arrow - 31286359 (for MY 11 and after) Green Arrow - Thi...

Coils first (its easy to swap)

Agreed

1. Swap coils (check wiring harness at top of engine is anything loose or disconnected?)
2. clear codes
3. test drive (Does MIL flash?)
4. Read codes
5. Check LTFT STFT

GMM, The Volvo 3.2 has Variable valve lift. If your 3.2 is stuck at 3.6 mm lift then it would behave just like you described (starts and idles fine, but no power above 2000 RPMs) When the engine switches to the large lift it open the intake valve 10.0 mm Looking at the power graph for the 3.2 it loo...

GMM, Doe your code reader read PID? If it does then check the fuel pressure with the code reader That will tell you if you relieved the pressure. If you removed the fuse on a cold vehicle that sat over night then running for 1 second makes sense. If you had recently shut off the engine then the resi...

GMM, You will need to decide if you want to spend the $$$$ to get your XC90 back to a useful state. ABSCATE is right, the XC90 is a complex machine, if spending $2,000 to get it running well is out of the question then my best advice is to sell. Instead of 90 C I would expect something closer to 70 C or maybe less.

To really know what’s going on you need to measure the low side pressure and the high side pressure

One possibility is the prem air sensor

For my S80 3.2 I would occasionally get B1087

I recently replaced the radiator (and prem air sensor)

If you are really ambitious you could swap the fuel pressure sending unit. Your S80 3.2 is old enough that the starter motor may have failed.

I did have to replace the starter motor on my LR2 with the same engine at 100,000 miles

For my S80 I haven't changed the starter

If you disconnected the positive lead overnight that should be fine.

B+ is positive battery lead

B- is negative battery lead

You can also try starting in neutral instead of park

It’s a little complicated but I can explain it if you aren’t able to start in park

Re: Mystery Transmission Line- 2007 S80 3.2 Topic is solved

I looked to see if I could find this vent from another source (i.e. Aisin, Mazda, Ford, Land Rover, etc.)

All I found was information that indicates its a press fit.

The Vendors that rebuild Transmissions must have a solution but I couldn't find it.

Let us know what you find out.

Thanks

Mike, It's not that hard to replace. Just remember to remove the old O-ring and plastic pieces from the engine block. This is a common failure point on the 3.2 and 3.0T I plan to replace mine every 10 years or every 100,000 miles. You should also be thinking about replacing the Thermostat because it...

The broken old pin should pull right out.

Small pick tool should work well.

if you remove the pump you could drill it out also, but that shouldn't be needed.

Volvo does sell them

I’ll post the part number if I find it

It is just for centering the power steering pump during assembly

A field expedient repair would be to substitute a plastic tube of appropriate diameter

Possibly part of an old tooth brush or something similar

Good luck

No pressure

Just gravity.

For my LR2 and S80 the reservoir is higher than the pump.

If you make the reservoir the same level as the pump you may not lose much

Mike,

For reference

Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) check
Perform a crankcase ventilation test according to VIDA. Using the tool specified in
VIDA, the gauge will seem “out of range”. Normal PCV vacuum at idle for the Si6 and

Ok, correction. I CAN spin that pulley below the A/C compressor (CCW as viewed from driver's fender) when using the belt thrown around it. Can't spin it CW. I think my confusion was that this isn't really called an alternator pulley, it's the crankshaft pulley? https://parts.volvocars.ca/p/Volvo_20...

The Thermostat is a know failure point in the 3.2 and they typically fail around 100,000 miles or 10 years When the thermostat fails there is some evidence that the higher engine temperature can lead to coil pack failures. I recommend that you replace your thermostat some time soon. If you do let us...

I have a 2010 version of the same car with over 350,000 Kms on it. Personally, I think this engine/car is better than the previous P2 models (I have owned 17 Volvos in the past from a 122S to a 05' V70R). The car has more room inside and is smoother on the road with very good front suspension - but...

Re: 2010 XC70 A/C Receiver Drier Location

For my 2010 S80 3.2 the dryer is a desiccant bag inside the condenser. It comes in a sealed aluminium Mylar bag and it only has a 1 year shelf life. Don't open the Mylar Bag until you are ready to install the desiccant in the condenser. The cap that holds the bag in place uses a Torx T-70 fastener. ...

Re: Volvo S80 - which gearbox type?

I own a 2010 S80 3.2 Front Wheel Drive and it uses a 6 speed Aisin Transmission Unfortunately where I live the D5 is not an option (It sounds like a nice option) Looking at the Sales Brochure for the UK I see the following D4 - Manual Transmission or 8 Speed Geartronic Geartronic.jpg As for the D5 I...

Re: $10,000 S80 Challenge

Re: Engine weird sound - 3.2 - XC90 2011

For me personally I didn’t notice any noise due to a failed torque mount on my S80

I do recommend that you change the mount under the torque mount at the same time if it has collapased

See this link for torque mount info

Re: Engine weird sound - 3.2 - XC90 2011

The video's help

The check engine light is on what code is stored?

The check engine light didn't flash (the engine management system doesn't think that you have a misfire)

If you shift into manual mode will the engine go to Redline in first gear (it doesn't need to be on the hill)

Goodluck

Re: Engine weird sound - 3.2 - XC90 2011

I also own two 3.2's The person on this site with the most 3.2 knowledge is probably Jimmy57 you can send him a P.M. and see if he can help you If it were me I would do the following (note: if Jimmy suggest a different order or different items for trouble shooting then follow his suggestion not mine...

Re: Believe the dipstick or manual for correct oil level?

Mike, This may help This engine type is very sensitive to overfilling because it is hard to check the oil level with the dipstick in an easy way. This is because the engine oil needs time to settle in the oil sump and also because the dipstick can be turned around causing the indicated level to be d...

Re: 2012 XC60 won’t start

Chris The location you circled is above the compressor for the air conditioner The 3.2 has a R.E.A.D. rear end ancillary drive Which means that the serpentine belt is at the back of the engine above the transmission As for the no start issues it seems that you had an electrical failure. Depending on...

Re: Engine weird sound - 3.2 - XC90 2011

Start with new spark plugs I recommend Denso (5344) IKH20 This is what I run in both of my 3.2’s For more information see this thread https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=88362 After spark plugs the PCV would be a good place to check next Post here your results (even if you ...

Re: $6500 for repairs??

Andy, For my 2010 S80 3.2 the Thermostat failed but I had no symptoms. I replaced it only because it was known to fail for others. The post that convinced me that being proactive with the change can be found here (This is the post with the ignition coil failures) http://www.volvoxc.com/forums/showth...
