Re: The Resurrection/Insurrection of GrunHilde - 1998 V70 NA M56 421 Green

Nice work! How much is left of that black '98? It must be picked pretty clean by now. Did you use the control arms from that one for the green one? The passenger side control arm is only 2-3 years old, not sure about the driver side.

Re: No start - Running out of options

I think you are onto something with the key chip, but what about the ignition switch itself?

Re: 1998 Volvo V70XC won't start at 16 degrees

16 degrees last night and right now (10/26/2000 at 1pm in Colorado) and my 1998 Volvo V70XC (180,286 miles) won't start. I put a full charge on my battery, and when I first try to start after waiting a while I get the engine to run for two seconds, then it quits and cranking periodically doesn't wo...

Odd gauge lamps not in use...can these be activated?

Pulled a 96 VDO N/A gauge cluster. Seeing there were three bulb locations without bulbs on the left-hand bank, I shined a flashlight through to reveal what was there. The yellow low oil light is odd because there is a red oil symbol for this on the right-hand bank. Can this be activated by installin...

Re: chasing dead interior/dash console lights

Thanks Erik, Based on my research, the primary telltale signs with these clusters is the Yazaki unit features rpms that go to 8k whereas the VDO stops at 7k. Also, the Yazaki odometer is above the speedometer needle and the trip odometer is below. On the VDO unit, both the analog odometers are below...

Re: chasing dead interior/dash console lights

I also think it is most likely just burnt out bulbs. To add trip computer on a 96 the cluster is indeed already able to use it. You just need to to grab the computer/clock module to replace your clock-only, and the info switch from another 850 that has them, plug them in and it works. There may be ...

Re: chasing dead interior/dash console lights

If you can fund and post the wiring diagram I think everything is in parallel there. It’s the a Goddess of Coincindece at work, I fear Ugh, not looking forward to pulling the dash pad but I really miss not seeing time and temp at night. While I'm in there I might as well fix the trip odometer gear ...

chasing dead interior/dash console lights

1996 Volvo 850 base: I replaced my shift lock solenoid this past weekend. While I was in there, I replaced the burnt-out shifter light bulb with a spare from my V70. I also removed the burnt bulb from the front ashtray light receptacle. I also pulled the burnt bulb from the rear of the console that ...
