Hi Everyone,
I'm in a little bind. My 850 is going through tires VERYYYY quickly. In 5000-10,000 Miles my brand new Dunlop Sp-60 tires are COMPLETELY BALD from the inside....Outside is fine...but the inside is GONEEE...I hydroplane now very easily.... I never did before when the tires had less miles on them and of course not bare....
I have replaced my ::
Control arms
Front Struts
Strut mounts
spring seats
Now I am driving with the steering wheel at 30 degrees or so...
I plan to do the alignment asap but only after I replace what is also contributing to the terrible tire wear.
I personally believe something besides the alignment is hurting the tires(but don't know what it may be)
Also how can I distinguish a good alignment shop from a bad one..I'm looking at $40 at the place I bough my tires or 120 at Volvo Stealer.
I'm sure this post will help others as-well.
Thanks !

When did you replace all the suspension components that you have listed?
The only thing that you have not replaced are the inner and outer tie rods, which could both be causing this issue. You can check to see if they are bad by jacking up the wheels and checking for play.

Aliigggggggnmenttttttttttt. They will let you know if it can't be done or if something else is wrong in the process. It sounds like the camber is WAY off and the tires are leaning to the inside. You may need to put a camber kit on both sides in order to have the alignment done. The steering wheel shouldn't be turned THAT much going straight.
+1 on the tie rods; I was going to say it sounds like you bent a control arm since the steering is pulling one way, but you replaced both of those.
I always put my less-good tires on the back; hydroplaning is pretty scary.

Alignment is definitely the greatest contributor to my balding tires...I checked the tie rods and they are kind of rusted but fine...My driver's side control arm is shot...great that's the same control arm I paid some INDY to do for me ... $170..DAMN IT!! Do the work yourself and get quality parts ..learn from my mistake...and save yourself a good amount of cash and grief!!!
Those independent mechanics charge an arm and a leg and use GARBAGE(Chinese??) parts...
I hear URO control arms are pretty fine...does anyone have anything against URO...they are listed as the manufacturer on FCP's site.
Jablackburn, I HATTTTTTEEEEEEE HYDROPLANING.....especially when I am late to an appointment...The last time I drove 20 miles in hard rain I hydroplaned 10+ times!!!!!
I can't wait to have this fixed...and ALIGNNNNNNEEEED...getting tired of driving at 30 degrees with the steering pulling in all directions...literally!!!!!

URO parts are just fine; I replaced the control arms on my Honda with those & went 20,000 miles with no problems. Well, problems from them anyway...but that's another story altogether.
I try to do all of my own work on my car and keep it away from garages as much as possible, except for shocks or things I just don't feel like dealing with. I just don't trust them. I took it to one to have my A/C evacuated & recharged, and after they couldn't find the high-pressure port, they charged me $190 and didn't even put any freon in it. Another time, after telling the people at Merchants MULTIPLE TIMES that I had a T5 model and not a normal S70, they STILL ordered the wrong size tire.
It's from this site and the people here I have learned so much about my car, and once you get to know it, it's really pretty easy to work on

I'm quite young and really only recently realizing my new hobby. I've always had a passion for cars, and these 850s have really sparked my fancy!!!

I did search up on URO control arms and parts....to be honest it doesn't look good...
For the 1 year I've owned my vehicle I've replaced the drivers side control arm twice ....I've never replaced the passenger side(it's original Volvo)....I believe the Chinese garbage is hopeless....
That's why I'm thinking of just going Volvo OEM...what do you think????...Haha not to rain on your parade....or bring any bad luck
You might think I'm crazy...but I'm really fed up with the control arms going bad...I mean same side twice this year...ENOUGH is ENOUGHHH(would bad stuts or unaligned wheels mess a control arm up..I had both of those??!!
What do you think...Is my logic flawed?

Actually upon just visiting their site I thought it might be a good experiment..but upon more searching ...I'm almost sure I'll stick to original Volvo OEM control arms.

http://volvoforums.com/forum/showthread ... 813&page=2Bought OVP relay (specified K.A.E. brand)...
"Uro" (Cheap,Unmarked,Chinese Knockoff) branded arrived...
ReCalled...Supplier issued call tag for "Uro" equipment
AND shipped K.A.E. relay.
If you order...specifically request name brand from them(BY NAME).
Otherwise you'll get URO parts.

Wait, sorry. I'm an idiot. Sigh, I've been working on a presentation for work all night...I can't even give advice right. No. URO parts are bad. Very bad. I did those on the Saab too, not the Honda. I changed the tie rods on that one. And ordered them from eeuroparts. That's what I got confused with. I feel dumb.
Yeah, OEM parts for Volvo's only. They're expensive, but they've lasted this long on the car already, so that means they're good
That is ridiculous, do you enjoy driving through potholes?
jk, I'd attribute that to the Chinese parts too.
