ECC-313, damper motor

Post by sjarrel2 »

Hi there volvo enthusiasts,

FIrst of all, great forum. Lots and lots of helpfull reading. But, nevertheless, I have a problem for which I couldn't find the answer here. Flashing ECC lights in my case. I read the DTC --> ECC-313 Passenger side temp damper motor, OC or SC in pot ciruit

So, I read about these damper motors, but they were mainly for 850. I found a picture for a 850. Is this picture also applicable for my 1998 v70? And which number would be the damper motor involved with this DTC? And finally, is this fixable or does it need to be replaced? (and can this be done without taking out the entire dash??)

Image

Thanx from the Netherlands!

Welcome to MVS,

You can gain access through a combination of removing the lower dash panel and the glove box. The only tricky part is releasing the arms on the glove box door which requires a small screwdriver (or something similar) to release the locking tabs.

I've had a difficult time trying to find a replacement damper motor for my 1997 Volvo 850. My main damper
motor no longer operates so I wanted to try a DIY replacement. I don't see anything on FCP Groton or ebay
so I suspect I'm not specifying the motor properly. Does someone have the part number? Is is called something
else?

I also understand that all of the damper motors are the same in the 850.

Thanks

If you're planning on just replacing it anyways, try this - https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... =1&t=27239

I'm not sure if I should start a new thread.

My damper motor was not doing anything so I followed the instructions here for removing it.

I cleaned the motor contacts as described in the referenced thread. I plugged the motor in (not
installed) and turned on the air. The damper motor does not do anything when I move the controls
to change the damper.

I looked at the black tube that the motor connects to. It appears that the motor drives this to
turn the dampers. I am not able to turn this at all with my hands. When I place a square drive in
the socket where the damper motor plugs in the plastic simply splits apart.

If I should be able to move this black tube that the motor connects to then I have a few problems:

1) the tube appears to be frozen (or is the damper jammed)
2) the motor does not appear to function
3) the tube the motor connects to is cracked and split when I insert something to try and turn
the damper.

Any advice on what to do here? I'm hoping to avoid tearing apart the dash and I'm worried this is
an expensive repair if I have to have someone else do it.

Thanks in advance.
