We've had our 95 volvo v70 into the shop constantly over the last few weeks. The winter mode comes on by itself. The codes give no clue as to what it is - switches have been changed except for the PNP switch because the code never shows up. The transmission has been flushed. We are at our wits end because mechanics haven't been able to solve the problem.

Is it actually in winter mode or is the arrow just on? Is it blinking?
You can check the codes yourself on your car without any special code readers. If you don't think its the PNP, the actual shifter switch could be faulty. That would probably be good news.

I don't like cross referencing forums without approval, but the goal here is to get cars fixed so here you go:

Also might try moving the shifter back and forth a bunch of times. Who Knows?

It is in winter mode - can tell when I traffic lights and try to accelerate. Usually have to stop car and shift back and forth to get it out of the mode. Have had the first switch you mentioned changed. The PNP code does not come up on the codes - should it be switched? It happens at least once a day when driving.

I know on our 850 we had the same problem. I took out the winter switch and cleaned it with electronics part cleaner. looks like coffee or pop was spilled into the switch causing it to stick

yeah moving around the shifter helped me out with this problem a little bit temporarily also another problem i came across that is similar is that after coming to a stop, it seems like the transmission takes about 3 seconds to kick in and then it sort of jumps and drives normally from there. im not sure if anyone knows or has experienced something like this or not.
