CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND SERVICE LIGHT
I bought my 1987 S70 2 years ago. Never had a problem with it - runs great ! New York State just went on a program where the cars must pass emissions to pass inspection. Mine failed with a PO455 Code !! So happens the guy I bought it from must have experienced problems and he removed Check Engine light bulb and Service light bulb from behind the instrument cluster. I installed 2 bulbs and now both light illuminate ( where obviously they did not before ) So even if I had a problem for 2 years, I never would have known it ! But car still runs and drives beautifully. Anyone know what the problem may be ? Check engine light and service light stay illuminated and won't go out, so it won't pass inspection.

Evap, ECS Leak detected ? Where should I start looking ? I also noticed Air pump relay was missing from the car - and after further research I believe some S70's did not have the air pump system. I hope this is the case, and someone before me did not disconnect the air pump system because it was malfunctioning. Do you have a phone number ? May I call you for more advice ? Thanks, Mickey

Most likely culprits are either the evap valve or the gas cap. Test the evap valve and see if it'll hold pressure. If not, it has most likely failed. You can buy a new one here for cheap.

Believe it or not, I disconnected and then connected the battery terminals, after cleaning them and now the Checck engine light comes on when key on and engine off and then goes out as it should when car is started and running. The Service Due light remains on for about 5 minutes after startup and then extiguishes. I just hope that the code po455 does not fail a perfectly running volvo beacasue of the newly enacted New York State emissions Bull--it. Anyone out there - will this code fail inspection in California, New York, or any other state that tests emissions for passing state inspection ? Thanks, Mickey

Anyone,
Where is the evap valve located on my 1998 S70 non-turbo ? Also, which 1998 s70's DID NOT have an air pump and air pump relay ? Thanks, Mickey
