flasher help! volvo 850

Post by hardtimes »

94 volvo 850. The flasher sits behind the hazard switch. The passenger side turn signal works fine with the parking lights/headlights off. However, when they are turned on, the passenger side parking lights are brighter and do not flash. Is this the flasher? or bad wiring?
The volvo dealership told me that the flasher is apart of the whole hazard light switch unit.... which is over $78 from them.

so, what do you all think?

This sounds like either a bad ground or a shorted bulb filament (rare).

Try, after making sure that the socket is clean and not corroded, replacing the bulb first as this is the easiest. If you do not have a bulb swap left for right. If that does not work it may be a bad ground. Check that the ground wire is attached at both ends and is making good contact.

I have narrowed down the problem to the front passenger side turnsignal light. Now, the problem has changed. The turnsignal and hazard works fine, but the parking light does not light and there is a light out indicator on the dash. Do you have a wiring diagram for the side lights?

Hi,

The Haynes Repair Manual has several wiring diagrams for the 850. If you don't want to buy one (highly recommended) then your local public library has one. Just copy what you need if you are not a member.

Hope this helps
