850 auto tranny problem?

Post by GA »

my 1993 850 auto has started to thud into lower gear when i come to a quickish stop.also on acceleration she seems to omit a slight whistling/wheezing sound from somewhere under the bonnet..i went to check the fluid level this morn but got put off by heavy rain.what i did do was ,with engine running ,shifted her through the gears a couple of times and when i went back to park she engaged with a ckunk.

anyone got any ideas.

The clunking in to lower gear when stopping was the first symptom on the day that my tranny died. It could also be a problematic (read: broken) motor mount allowing the engine to rock back and forth. I'd suggest thoroughly inspecting all of the non-hydraulic mounts and using a pry bar to determine if they are broken. Here is a diagram for reference. The whistling sound is very common on these cars; nothing really to worry about.
