"check engine" light on because of gas cap...

Can the "check engine" light be turned off by the car owner (non-mechanic)?? It came on because the car was moved a few feet with the cap off. Thanks!

What is the year and model of your car? It can be turned off but we need to know the year to tell you how.

If you have an OBDII reader you can erase the code. Or disconnect the battery for a couple of minutes. but the radio and clock will need to be reset
