Total solution for MP3, GPS and mobile phone

Post by hazardvolvofan »

My friend has just taken delivery of a brand new merc. Shame on him, but it does have one of those great "all in one" systems. That is, CD, MP3, GPS, Phone, Radio all in one neat touch screen unit.

I checked several stores and local Volvo dealerships and it seems that there nothing similar that's available as aftermarket item... not in South Africa anyway.

Apparently BMW have the sole rights to the GPS vehicle system in S.A.??

Being a firm believer that my Volvo '98 S70 is just the perfect package of luxury, comfort, safety and SPEED, I have not intention of driving anything else.

That said, I wish there where more options available where sound is concerned. I have the standard SC 802 fitted, without the CD shuttle (Available from dealers here at a ridiculous R5000.00 plus!!! Only 6 discs and it does not play MP3)

I'm currently using a HP IPAQ 4500 with Handy map loaded and a Bluetooth GPS unit. This works well enopugh except for the voice prompts from the IPAQ that are barely audible.
Seeing that there is no auxiliary input on the SC802, foiled again.

Any suggestions for a solution that will allow MP3 and GPS and

You are in Europe? Do you have the in-dash screen like some S70's from Europe do? You seem to want a lot out of your Volvo stereo. I have my iPod running through my head unit (SC-816) with the USA Spec unit (you can buy them from Crutchfield's for under $130 including the special Volvo cable), but wouldn't know how to integrate the GPS too. You might want to check over on Swedespeed where others are doing more. Here's a link to the general A/V section...do some searching in there: http://forums.swedespeed.com/zeroforum?id=22
