1995 850Turbo wagon stalls randamly

Post by peterketer »

 It first began with the car stalling on a city street. No particular reason, but I had to coast to the side, put it in park and restart. This was rare at first and soon became less rare but always random. The scariest was on the highway at 70 mph in the passing lane. No "code" lights come on and my mechanic can't figure it out without just replacing everything. The thought is electrical, but who knows. Any help out there.

I have the same problem with my 96 turbo wagon. Mechanic is stumped. wierd thing that i noticed is that it only happens when it is very hot outside. 95degree (F) or higher. sounds like the engine compartment is just getting too hot and something is shorting out. IT sucks

:? Last year to fix the stalling problem, we switched the fuel filter. $26.oo later, I was good to go. No problems...Now one year later at the change of seasons (New Hampshire) same stalling issues. Changed the filter again, but problem continues. It seems to be failing when there is a shift in the "BAROMETRIC PRESSURE" Sounds weird but it is during a storm, or a sudden drop in the temperature. I don't know where to go with this one.

stalling is mostly fuel delivery system

fuel filter
fuel pump
fuel pump relay
fuel line & fuel return line clogging

my '93 850 GLT usually stalls frequently and has become a real problem for me. Usually it stalls in the rain or when the humidity is up but it has a tendency to stall when i come to a stop when i dont have more then a quarter of a tank of gas. Ive brought it to a shop for a look-see but my problems had nothing to do with the fuel system. Rather my real main seal, oil pump and motor mount were all broke. The stalling doesnt have anything to do with that because this happened after the stalling started.

I have heard that changing the filter is job one to eliminate the stalling problem. If problem continues, change the fuel pump relay. For some reason the fuel pump relay seem to be effected by weather change.

my 850 turbo wagon had the same stalling problem. mine usually occured after fueling. after new plugs, wires, ignition coil, etc. - we found it was the valve in the line that sends fuel to the charcoal canister. it was alowing fuel instead of vapor through, and the return line dumping fuel in to the motor was causing the stall.

How were you able to determine this and how difficult is it to access and change?

Thanks!
