1998 V70 speedometer and tac don't work after battery died

All the dash gauges quit working after my battery died. The local mechanic recharged the battery and got the fuel and temperture gauges back up but said he couldn't get into the computer that would reset the speedometer and tac. The Volvo dealer is so far away. Any way of getting those two gauges and the little screen underneath to start working again?
