I have just purchased the 2001 V40, but when I attempt to change the brakes I was mind boggled? Do I have to remove the entire caliper? If anyone out there have directions on how to change the brakes on the V40, I would be highly thankful. Its seem more complicated than the Mercedes I have.

When doing the front brakes I had no major problems, the rear brakes though were a nightmare. After a lot of time and effort I found information through the net. The pistons in the calipers have to depressed using a special tool which rotates them clockiwise whilst exerting inwards force. I managed to get around this problem with the help of a friend. On one brake the piston was fully extended, he rotated it carefully using molegrips whilst I pushed it inwards at the same time with the aid of a large extension bar. On the other piston we were able to use a large G-clamp to rotate and depress at the same time. After this the job was pretty straightforward.
