My '94 850 recently had many repairs, one of which was the replacement of my steering wheel with a brand new wheel due to horn NOT working/intermitent working while turning. This brand new wheel cost $325 + $150 labor.
Now, 1.5 months after this repair, I'm driving today, use the horn, and it won't stop blowing. Saw this on the tips page:
For anyone who has had their horn NOT shut off!! I have a 1994 850, S70, V70, and the wife one day pumped her horn, but it wouldn't shut off. She pulled into the driveway and I simply disconnected the electricity from the horns themselves until I can investigate. The bottom line was that the horn contacts in the steering wheel are held in place by plastic! It fatigues over time, and the horn contacts then touch the horn bracket, and voila, a closed circuit and so the horn blows continuously.
Am wondering if anyone has any idea how this could happen with a brand new steering wheel.
Also, is there any way to disconnect the horn so that I can drive the car? It's just not driveable like this - I had alot of angry folks blowing their horns at me - very embarrassing.

Disconnect the horns by unclipping the wire harnesses to the trumpets. They're at the front on the engine in front of the radiator, right behind the Volvo emblem on the grill of the car (but not attached to it). You must raise the hood to see them.

Thank you very much for your response. I did, earlier (before seeing it) find the wires that connect to the horns and thanks to a guy on brickboard.com who posted a reply to me late last night, was able to figure out how to press on the pin to release the cables.
I just feel frustrated that this would happen with a brand new wheel, and I'm sure the dealership would never own up to having put on a rebuilt if I call them on it...

I know exactly how you feel with that horn problem. I have posted a suggestion for repair to the horn switches that costs a whole lot less than the price of a new steering wheel. It is on page 2 of the forum titled "94 850 Horn Switch Repair."
