1999 S70 GLT - What is this pipe for? Topic is solved

Normally I would do more research but in the middle of 2 x house renos so help would be appreciated.

A buddy contacted me asking what this pipe does as he needs to replace it on his car as it is perished.

I have posted a picture of my cars engine (00 V70R) but pipe is in the same location so hopefully serves the same purpose.

The pipe in question is the one in the top middle of the intake manifold with the silver pipe clamp on it. I had a quick look but can't figure out where it goes and my ETM hides it. I think it runs to a 'T' near the alternator and looks like it runs to a valve on the top LHS of the radiator and not sure where the other end goes. I think it is a return pipe to the fuel tank. I believe it may be part of the Emissions or fuel system.

Help appreciated.

It's the evap purge takeoff. It goes to a T with one branch going down to the snorkel in front if the turbo, and the other branch connecting to the evap purge valve on the radiator.

There are check valves in each circuit.

Under calm running, the manifold side pulls the purge vacuum when commanded by the purge valve.

Under boost, the snorkel vacuum does that job.

Thanks abscate! I knew I was on the right line but you make it much more clear. It now all comes rushing back, the nightmare of the AWD rear axle and fuel/emissions system rebuild on the 'R'. Still makes me shudder to think on it!

If you search for my poor cold idle thread I drew a diagram for this as it turned out to be root cause, nasty rotted vacuum lines. One of mine had rotted into two strips of rubber
