lost boost and idle

Post by Sveedy »

So as the title says, I lost turbo boost on my way home today. I was on the highway and, when I pushed the loud pedal, I had boost for a second, then lost it completely. Totally gone from that point on. Boost gauge would not go into the white area at all, even at wot. When I came to my first stop she wouldn't idle - died.
Idles in park but not drive.

I'm waiting for it to cool off and then I'll try spraying throttle cleaner or starting fluid around some hose connections but does this all sound symptomatic of a bad BCV ? It came on so sudden....

Thanks all !

Check the pipes between the turbo and the intercooler and intercooler to throttle body, likely one has popped off, loose clamp or bad hose. Happened to me, same issues. Cheap fix, takes a screwdriver if you can find the hose clamp...

Thanks - Those are all new and tight. However I did find a 1/4" vacuum line that broke off in my hand so I'm replacing all of them.
But I can't seem to find a listing for a new BCV. Only used ones...Does anyone know if other BCV will work ?

(1) What dobro said.
(2) Could be a big hole in the CBV diaphragm, though unlikely.

EDIT: is that what you mean by BCV?

Yep. Not sure what the proper term is. And it is no longer available. The way it died felt like a balloon was popped. I could just put the new vacuum hoses on but with everything taken apart I'd like to do what I can now.
These valves do wear out right ? This one is original ( 130k )

Looking into it I don't think they are the same thing.

"Ballon popped" sure sounds a lot like a split intercooler hose. Check the one on the throttle body, it can split on the back side. Do you have silicone or rubber ones?

Here is an example of one of the widely distributed CBV diaphragms for the TD04HL turbo: https://www.ipdusa.com/products/11804/1 ... ipd-124917 but really I would look for one distributed by Mistubishi or Kunagawa. Watch out for counterfeits, if it's too cheap stay away.

These guys can help you find turbo parts, the shop's work is awesome too but pricey IMO: https://www.gpopshop.com/

That's some good info Erik - like I said it just gave out. Thanks ! All new intercooler hoses within the last month. Silicone. IPD or FCP
I'm going to put new 1/4" vacuum hoses on and give it a try. Can always take it back apart. Autozone was out of 1/4"
Still wondering about what to do if I need to replace the boost valve ( attached to the air box ) if it's NLA. .

Ha ! How about BPS ? Seems like it's been superseded a couple of times.
