Body swap question

Post by Turbolena »

I wanted to confirm that the hood, doors and front wheel panels from a sedan of an 850 glt or s70 would fit a 1994 850 turbo wagon....
Pretty sure the hood is the same but what about the doors?

Doors are the same for sedan and wagon, but only if they from 850. S/V70 have another doors with locks and lifters, hood, bampers etc. But door glasses are the same for 850 and S70, sedan or wagon.
If my English is bad, please correct me

The fenders are different between 850 and S70. The only way to swap the fenders is to move the whole nose with them.

Hood I think is the same, it must be since people have swapped the nose.

User "Chuck W" posts on here a lot and he has recently done the nose swap.

For 850 and S70? No, absolutely. And plastic front panels are different too. But hood locks are the same.

Pretty much EVERYTHING needs to be swapped. Even the connectors on the lights are different.
The hood latches are the same, but the brackets that mount them are different.

My list from my nose swap.
-Hood, fenders, bumper cover.
-Header panel (headlight mount, etc). You may need some slightly longer bolts for the lower attachment, as the 850's have stamped steel brackets along the bottom, while the *70's have the brackets as part of the assembly, which is thicker).
-AL bumper core WITH the brackets that attach to the car. (The ones that the long bolts that hold the bumper on attach to)
-Headlight plugs/pigtails
-Hood latch brackets
-Headlight assemblies and corner lights

'78 GLE - Waiting in the wings. Future whiteblock/T5 swap.

Thanks for the insights. my 850 turbo runs great w, but is rusting. I will keep my eye out for 850's then....not trying to get too involved in the body swap. PLUS the 850 is the superior aesthetic. Any chance someone has a 850 turbo wagon or sedan that they can no longer keep and would like to sell a responsible new owner???? :)

Usually the P80 cars are pretty good rustwise, you may want to try getting rid of the rust rather than finding another car. I just had both rocker panels welded in for less than a grand on my winter 855 T5. If you find a shop outside of Switzerland this should keep the costs reasonable, even if you have it done as opposed to doing it yourself.

I am definitely outside of Switzerland....ha. I love this car so I probably will throw some money at repairing it.
