98 v70: power steering fluid issue
The previous owner of old Red replaced the steering rack and caught himself as he was going to blame me for the old steering rack issue. He informed me that he filled up the new PS rack with PS fluid, not ATF. How do I drain ALL the ps fluid? Is this a 'drain ps pump, replace fluid, drive, and repeat' situation? I have picked out Idemitsu TLS (T-IV) ATF fluid for $14/qt. Please advise if you know of a better ATF while being cheaper.

On one of the several round-trips on rack in the Problem Child '99, I used a Harbor Freight fluid suction pump to get as much as I could out of the reservoir, pulled the return line, and rigged a bit of spare hose to it and stuck the end in the catch bottle. Running the engine for a minute or 2 got enough out that I was OK with whatever was left. The pumps are pretty tough, didn't seem to bother mine.
I had bought a couple gallon jugs of Valvoline to do a trans flush, that's what I used. I no longer bother with the precious green stuff.

Get the car front end up in the air.
On a 1998 get a block off for the return hose port, then pour ATF into the reservoir while turning the wheel lock to lock
Two reservoirs full should do the flush.
The Valvoljne maxlife atf is about $5 a liter in the jug

This may help. Check figure #6 in their pictures. They state the metal line is the high pressure line, the the rubber hose is the return.

I'll have to look under the hood of the '98 when I get home tomorrow, but in general, the pressure line comes out the body of the pump, and the return goes into the tank.
I'm wondering how much difference there is between the two juices.

That picture shows the later 1999- on style pump with separate reservoir. Your 1998 returns the fluid through the soft hose onto a nipple on the tank on top of the pump. You want to pour into the top of the tank while pumping old oil out of the rubber hose into a container.
Pressure line sticks out the front and is metal
Return line is rubber and presents sideways to left side of car, originating at a plastic nipple on the reservoir tank. Screwdriver needed for clamp, unless you use an oetiker clamp like a pro does , in which case you Dremel
