850 Driver's side window gutter/guide

Post by Colt99 »

Well, as I replaced the little lock bar and grommets, this fell to the bottom of the inside of the window. It appears to be a guide. I tried looking at the passenger side assembly to see how it's connected inside the door but didn't see any connectors.

Does anyone have a trick to getting this back into place?

Junkyard part. It is no longer available new. You can fit one from an 850 or a V/S70. The only difference is the V/S70 one is rivetted in and the 850 has a small torx bolt. Window has to be all the way up to install and it either is quick or is a bear like the last one I did recently. The mounting bracket breaks over a long period of use. Only other option is if you have a friend or you that can weld. Remove the screw/bolt on the back edge of the door and then have it rewelded. Never tried the, but maybe add a extra overlap of metal to strengthen the repair.

Thanks for the info, I'm gonna see if a friend'll help or something.

But where's the torx bolt go? Like, in relation to the picture.

It's my first time messing with my Volvo's windows at all.

Thanks for your time, appreciate it

Also, when you say the screw/bolt on edge of door in order to weld it back, do you mean to get the window guide secured back into the door?

Yes. If you look down the back of the door just below the latch, you should see a lonely T25 Torx head bolt/screw. On the other end on the inside of the door is the other half of the bracket as per your picture.

If there is just a rivet there it may have already have been replaced once with the later version as the 850 variant has been NLA for 10 years or more. In that case, you will have to drill the rivet out to release the other part of the mount. Volvo use a steel rivet, not you average aluminum one. As my rivet gun did not have the strength to compress it, I ended up using an M5/6 (whatever goes through the hole in the door) and a spring washer and nut on the inside.
