Re: What did you do to your Volvo today?
What are all those gaps in the rubber on those tires? It looks like a very systematic defect...

Do you want the $500 tire with maybe 10,000 mi of tread life, worthless in anything but warm and dry, or the $80 Chinese tire that says it will go 80,000 mi, where in NONE of those miles it will have any grip?
"$80 Chinese tire that says it will go 80,000 mi" I was thinking HOW till I read the rest

Speaking of $80 tires with solid high rating on sale for $71 with Walmart. Have these on the 07 S60 2.5T and another set of 18" on the 08 C30. So far so good with grip, smoothness and steering response but haven't seen wet weather performance. The C30 18" being lower profile, one size up 225 to 235 is quite impressive in terms of handling and ride quality. Hope wet performance is on par with the dry.
Sold and shipped by Priority Tire Walmart.com (Much more ratings)

I did when I worked at Pep Boys busting tires for 6 months. The interior of the store was all tire smell with shop being a little less but you're always up close and personal all day. Early days wife wouldn't walk in and now never accompany

I have some el-cheapo tires on my Ford Focus. They were on it, when I bought it. Actually, I have two different pairs. I think the rear tires are some Eco-cheap tire from a major tire producer. The fronts are a Chinese brand, but I can't remember exactly what right now. Tread is good, but traction in winter is not, and it's not because they're summer/sporting tires, they're just garbage. I noticed the Focus would slip at very low speeds where the 850 would not. I need to replace them.BlackBart wrote: ↑29 Aug 2025, 12:09 I realize I’m very car-nerdy, but I love new tires. Upstate , my local tire guy was a Cooper dealer , so I ran the CS-5 line on just about everything.
I will say they is a huge contingent of people on Tire Rack who insist on 120 mph sped rated tires for their BNW so they can sit in standstill traffic on the 405 saying. Vroom, vroom…..

Changed out the voltage regulator on the V70. I thought about trying to do it with the alternator in place for about 5 sec. I don't see that as doable with the ETM in place. No where near as much room as on the 850. I wasn't able to completely remove the alternator no matter which way I rotated or wiggled it. Either the alternator bracket would have to come off, or the top radiator hose, neither of which I wanted to fool with. So I just installed the regulator with the alternator flipped over and sitting on its end.
Took it for a drive to town and all was fine. Till the thermostat stuck. Three stops for water later and I was back home again. Temporary crappy thermostat installed till good one arrives later this week.

What brand is the good one? I currently have a Motorad in my 850, which has been fine. I did buy an Aisin for it later, but it's still in the box. I was a little disappointed when I found it to be a reboxed Mahle. I figured if the pump was Aisin, a thermostat made by the same company would be a decent idea
