WtH: 2000 V70R downpipe hits 1999 Bevel gear rear DS flange

Post by PresseR »

So I picked up a 2000 straight OE downpipe and I'm putting it on a 99 V70R since the original S-bend downpipe, sheared off at the turbo flange.

I ended up cutting that crazy curve to get the downpipe out around the Rear driveshaft flange on the angle gear.

Now as I dry fit the 2000 downpipe it makes a lot of contact with that rear driveshaft flange on the 99 angle gear. I tried bolting it all up to the turbo and bending the pipe to the passenger side of the vehicle and no dice. Took a ball-peen hammer to the area on the downpipe that connects with the flange and it helped but it's so close that it's absolutely going to make a horrific noise if I drive this vehicle.

Any ideas how the heck I can get this to clear the drive shaft flange and hopefully the drive shaft once I reinstall it?

I don't understand why a 2000 would not fit on a 99 with the later angle gear. A 2002 drive shaft actually fit this car so I don't see it being a difference in an angle gear to go along with the downpipe as an issue between 99 and 2000.

My next step is to do a custom downpipe but that's a lot more work.

I think there are three different angle flanges on the 1998-00 models so compare them to make sure you have the right one

The 99 V70R has a different turbo I believe to the 99. The 99 I think may have a 16T or 18T? The 00 has a 19T. Can't tell you if the pipes are different for sure.

I don't know whether you're speaking about the angle gear and the rear flange for the drive shaft or if you're talking about the angled flanges on the hot side of the turbos between 98 through 2000.

Either way you're right! There are three different angle gears and at least two different angled flanges for the turbo. This must account for the difference that I'm seeing causing 2000 downpipe to contact my 99 angle gear.

Looks like it's a custom pipe for me unless any of you all have an AWD p80 downpipe for sale.
