Volvo 850 1995 Petrol Headliner

Post by manovlov »

Hy Guys,

I'm gonna pull out my headliner, and by the way, also the sunroof.

I would like to get any advice about the best grease i could get for the sunroof, cables, rails etc.

Thanks to those who will teach me.

Hi Manov,
I think your biggest challenge will be getting the sunroof trim off in one piece. I have never tried it, but from what I've heard it is almost certain that it will break.
However I have also seen a couple of solutions for when that happens, including an aftermarket trim, and another model Volvo sunroof trim that apparently works.

If it were me, I'd use marine outboard grease. The stuff doesn't have issues in water. Your outcome may be different... I'm almost sure Volvo has some super expensive grease they sell for it.
Wisdom requires knowledge as a prerequisite, but knowledge can be developed due to a lack of wisdom.
In order to learn how to fix something, you must first learn how to break it.

I've read that most part of greases have for issue to glue dust and stuff like that, to finish to stick sunroof rails and destroy mecanism. i do remember a post written by Neil which talked about silicon grease, in can... It would be also useful for all doors joints. WD40 proposes silicon in spray, but it appaears to me that the quantity layed wouldn't be enough.

Thanks for your answer.

I've tested this method and it worked prety well. If it may help.
