850 turbo leak

Post by Ty151 »

Hello everyone, long time lurker but first post.

1995 850 turbo with just under 70k miles. I’m chasing a knock sensor CEL so I have the intake manifold off to check out the sensors. While doing so, I’ve ordered a new PCV kit and will replace that. I’ve noticed a leak under the car, seems to drip from the oil pan but I’ve also noticed a large accumulation of oil and grime under the car, basically below the turbo.

While looking at where the PCV hoses go to the turbo, I noticed a large amount of oil and smudge on and around the turbo. Any ideas? I’ve posted a couple photos but can take more if needed. Thank you

That’s pretty normal for the turbo body but the oil drain tube might be leaking.

Get some brake clean on that and get that smush off

Yea, you could clean is really well and add UV due to the oil. Check daily until you see it shine with black light.

Ok sounds good. Yea I plan on getting it all cleaned up and that should help identify where the leak is coming from.

Do you think the drip from the oil pan could be caused by not replacing the crush washer on my last oil change? I have one now so I plan to change the oil after I get the knock sensor issue figured out and the pcv service done. Also cleaning the throttle body and egr valve while I’m there.

Anything else that could inspect/service while the manifold is off?

It’s in the wrong place for an oil pan drip

Start at the back of the camshafts and see if there are oil stains there. That’s a common spot for seeps. Those seals are easy to change , in the rear of the camshaft

Btw,many scanners incorrectly report knock sensor codes. It’s more likely a voltage problem somewhere

Oh really? That would be a bummer if I’m doing all this for nothing. Where do I even start in ruling out a voltage issue?

OBD codes. P0326. I can clear it and it will stay off for about 50 miles then pop back up

Reviewing some of the old posts on MVS from Ozark Lee and others, it looks like using high octane gas helped -- not sure if you've already tried that?
