Transmission Orange Arrow of Doom 1998 Volvo s70 t5

Post by veezmachine »

Hey everyone! My transmission started giving the blinking orange arrow on the dashboard of my S70 T5, but it still shifts and drives perfectly fine like normal. (Which means no limp mode, thankfully) I tried "rowing" the gear shifter for the PNP sensor problem, and it worked for a little while, but then the arrow came back. I've heard that sometimes the light goes away after not driving for a bit anyway, so that might not be the problem. I've also checked for codes with an OBDII scanner, and it wasn't showing anything. This makes me think the PNP sensor is broken, or I might be low on transfluid? I haven't been able to check because while fixing the PCV system, I accidentally snapped the top of the dipstick off (oops). I have to fish it out anyway because I was planning on flushing the fluid, so it's something I'll get to sooner rather than later if that turns out to be the problem. I was wondering if there were any other potential problems that could cause the orange arrow? Thanks in advance.

There's a long list of possibilites. Your TCM must be one of the variants that doesn't report codes to OBDII. To read the codes, you will need a scanner with Volvo D2 protocol.

My 1999 KarlaKat gave a code amd orange arrow for the first few weeks of ownership. Foggy had changed some ATF for me amd it magically fixed itself. Diagnosis…stuck TC solenoid , number 4 I think ?

Fixed with fresh ATF.

For TCM dtc readout you will need specific code reader like VOL-FCR at least.
