1998 V70R on Copart

Post by rolsen11 »

Figured I'd share this for fun, a 1998 V70R with 110k miles that appears to be very clean except for what is listed as "Front Undercarriage Damage" in Des Moines, Iowa.

The front passenger wheel is cambered in so something for sure is wrong. Maybe somebody here would like yet another project? I would love to save this car but I don't have the time, space or money for it right now :( . Any volunteers??

If the top shock mount is not damaged, the likely issue is the subframe and possibly the strut/control arm.

If that is the case, then it looks like a nice low mile example, but for me it is black. I have never owned another black car since the first one as they are a pain to keep clean.

Hopefully someone can save this. Even if it is not repairable, The interior and I'm sure many other parts could save another. Are Copart in the US the same as other countries where you cannot get access and have to buy blind?

Neil.

Copart lets you enter the yard and inspect the vehicles, so you don't have to buy blind. I agree, the big problem is probably a damaged subframe. The strut tower appears okay judging by the under hood photo.

I think I was at that yard in spring 2009. I drove from Denver to Des Moines, blew off the P0172 elbow on my HPT 850 on the way there, but thought it was the MAF, and went to a yard that looks a lot like that one to get a replacement MAF. It was a pick n pull back then.

Low miles on that R.

I believe it, that yard looks a bit small compared to most Copart yards that are huge. I'm starting to wonder if I can make this car work, but I don't think I'm willing to drive all the way to Des Moines to just to look at it and find out it's toast lol.

The car sold today, $2,900 winning bid. That's about $3,830 out the door after fees. That doesn't include potential shipping costs and of course the money it's gonna take to fix it and replace all the maintenance items. Seems like too much to me, I thought it would be a tough sell at $1,000...

Hopefully it went to a good home where it will get all the love it deserves, I think it went to California.

,
I always go https://import-motor.com and input Co-part Stock Number. Larger photos more info plus VIN in case you want to run a Carfax.

Thanks for the resource! Great to be able to see the sale price of other similar cars. I actually did run a CarFax on this particular V70R because my dad was interested in buying it, but the pre-bid went a lot higher than he felt comfortable paying for it since he couldn't see the car in person.
