Quarter Window: paint, replace and paint?

Post by 99TurboBrick »

How do folks typically handle this situation?

My detail guy has offered to paint this quarter window trim moulding. So, I could go that route.

Or, I see that I can purchase the trim part, but then it would seem that it needs to be painted anyway.

Any thoughts? Thank you!

Part number is 9151614 for the driver's side.

Well, web site just responded that the part is unpainted (I guess that was obvious), and also that the part is backordered 4-8 weeks.

So, cost of part ($115 w shipping) plus touch up paint (about $65) = $180.

v's just getting the old one painted saving the $115 parts cost? Either way the trim has to be removed and if it is just clear coat peel, it should paint up like new.

That's just clear coat. Watch a few UTube vids and just mask and don't remove. May create more problems.

Versus the $300 the detail guy is charging me to have it painted. (He's doing the roof trim moldings too for another $150).

I'm sure folks will say that's crazy money, and just diy it, but I'd prefer a pro do it. I don't really have the time or expertise.

I don't think that money is out of line. There's a bit of work just in the roof trim.
