Inflation went into hyperspace during Covid because every government drunkenly printed money and handed it out left and right. No part of financial life has been the same since, look at any chart. Auto parts is no exception and I wouldn't be surprised if parts is one of the worst sectors.

Usually this would push consumers toward new cars, but surprise, inflation is the same there. XC90s are $85k loaded, I've seen them with my own eyes. So we're kind of stuck here guys.

My brain may be stuck in "the old days", but an alternator is $150 at NAPA and they all work the same way. Some of much better built than others, obviously.
