Almost broke 30mpg this week with my 850 estate. Drove 200km with 5 people in the car after filling up, then to and fro work the rest of the week which is a 30km one way commute on straight roads with more moose than people on them.

Haven't done it yet, but I'm planning to go investigate my positive battery cable. Awhile back I noticed it was getting hot. I think I mentioned it here, but I've just let the car sit. Now, I need the car. It's snowed here, the Focus has transmission issues, and the rwd Cadillac is terrible in the snow.... I need the 850. The plan is to take some voltage drop measurements, and try cleaning contact areas, and check again.

Check and clean the grounds as well. It's is surprising how corroded connections and wires can reduce the efficiency of the electrical system at the age these cars are now.

I shoveled earlier. My only motivation was giving my car time to warm up a bit before clearing windows and then going to get some coffee.

I can relate to that! We had about 5-6" of that very fine snow that packs hard. With the prevailing wing we end up with huge snow overhangs over all the gutters. Snow was packed up to 18" so had to get the roof snow rake out to pull it off. The snow then packs even harder when it hits the ground. Ah, joy!

I was too scared for this drivers side rear axle thingy. Got Bahco 8150SL 72 teeth ratchet fit with normal socket to undo the old 18mm bolt at the end there with quite ease so this was 10 min work with father wedging something end of ratchet while me cracking it open so it wont ruin the bolt and make it round. Though half of old one rusted gone so it just slided off.

Got one year pass to continue enjoy 850 once again.

P.S. One blame inspector put that i dont have passenger airbag but i agreed that yes it is missing as never was there (i didnt have the top of dashboard on so he asked me to put it back so he sees too that there is no portion for passenger airbag

)

With her new ECT and thermostat Tosh the 1998 fired right up on our first 0C/32F morning. She was 3-4 crank catch-rough-run before.

Re-installed my driver's side wiper.... came off the arm last night while driving. It doesn't seem to want to "click" into place. I also noticed both wiper arms are a little loose, for some reason, so I need to look at that.

Don't let the arms get loose. This will damage the splines on the 2 motor shafts and the inside of the arms.

Lots of antiseize on the splines than a 13mm docket to draw them down tight onto the splines …not too much torque
