Wheel bearing as per Abscate, but we were half right with the carrier bearing too.

Fixing the carrier bearing has greatly reduced the noise. That axle was well over due for a rebuild too. The boots weren't ripped, but the inner joint had so much play in it, there definitely wasn't any grease in it.

After finding that, I'm going to do the same on the drivers side as well.

I wish I had grabbed the correct steering knuckle before I left my house. I grabbed the drivers side instead of the passenger side.

I left all that stuff connected when I parted out the blue wagon.

Had I grabbed the correct side, I would have just swapped out the whole steering knuckle, brakes hub and all!

What's a couple extra steps 😂😂 having replaced that hub 2 years ago, I'm hoping it's not rust welded on.

And unfortunately Vivian the Volvo has become the backup vehicle. My wife ran her 07 s40 out of oil because of a cracked pan she didn't know about, so she had to drive the v70 until I was able to fix her car. It burns oil now, but it's still running and driving! Then she hit a deer, and it bent the core support out of shape, destroyed the hood, and broke a lense on her headlights.

And then my truck overheated and started knocking. So I'm driving the wagon again and I've got almost 2 years worth of maintenance to take care of.

I forgot to update after I did the wheel bearing.

I still have the noise. But only when turning left. It still sounds like it's coming from that wheel/axle side.

Neil, I recall you posting about the seal between the transmission and the angle gear causing some noise too right? While I don't think it's that, I do want to replace it.

I feel like now it's just tire noise. I still have the driver's side axle and wheel bearing to replace, but it's been too damn cold to be bothered. Once I get my truck situated, I'll be buying some new tires and seeing if that helps.
