When I was standing there talking to seller about the gray Volvo, he said the firewall connection to the heater core hoses had broken plastic.

A few days ago I looked and discovered it was the piping from firewall to heater core. I thought for sure I was screwed. Yesterday, I went looking for the part. EBay and everywhere else showed $250-550. Part 9134978. I searched on here in despair. Then I remembered my red Volvo trailer, so I went in there to look if that was left in there. It sure was. And that excellent condition heater core was still in there. What's weird is that when I pulled out the piping from the firewall, it came out broken the exact same way as my 850.

I got an idea from cn90 (screenshot below). I didn't go with his idea of cutting the metal pipe. But I will need to caulk the firewall. I think a tiny leak (passenger side) is coming from heater core pipe connection so the two o-rings need replacing. I'll do that in a couple days.

I am this much closer to selling my Volvo to my mom so my sister can have a super cheap starter car.

Am debating real hard to put some roof rails on or not. I like the look as it is now, but I’ve got 3 bike roof mounted bike carries that I used on my sedan.

Since I have the carriers already, makes sense to use those instead of looking at a hitch mounted rack.

Been going back and forth on the thin or thick roof rails. In my search for comparison pictures I came across these nice ones.

This picture makes the car looks so menacing on the road.

Volvo did sell roof cross rails that attach into the small holes with pins on the top of the door opening about the middle of the front and rear doors. I bought a set of them. I had already bought a used set of rails and new fittings to mount them on our 00 R, but decided as I have not used a roof rack for probably 20 years or more, it was work that was not needed. All that stuff is still in a box in the garage along with those 2 cross rails.

So if you like the clean look there is an option!

I just took a picture is all. I’m gradually changing the taillights because they faded badly in the sun. They didn’t seem to respond to the polisher kits or fine sanding - the grey and crazing was in the plastic.

I had the Yakima rack feet with rubber pads on the roof and the pins that hooked into the factory holes in the top of the door opening. Round Yakima bars. Minimal and nice.

I like the clean look without roof rails. But did you guys had any issues with water leakage through the seals?

Would imagine that the rubber door seals aren’t as fresh as 28 years ago.

Blackbart, that 850 is still looking awfully good to me. Still kicking myself I couldn't make the numbers work to move it north. Darn!

Drove mine through the car wash, it's been dirty for a month and temps are too cold for home washing. ABS light came on and the windows fogged up afterwards. ABS light cleared up next day but I wonder why the fog. Did it manage to fog up the cabin filter? I have one, fitted it myself.

Trying to fix tailgate leaks on my V70, fully removed the seal and cleaned everything, somehow the seal has shrunk a good 2cm ! Ended up cutting it so that the ends sit properly, and i'll be trying to make a 3d printer TPU patch until I can get my hand on another seal.

Bunch of small repairs while the car is inside, leaks, noisy pulleys. Finally getting to that point in car ownership where stuff I've fixed needs redone (almost 7 years and 85k km since i've bought it ) :)
