Evap Pump / sensor location 2000 C70 convertible

Post by Hoser99 »

2000
c 70 convertible auto 2.4 L
Im Asking for help finding exact location of
evap pump or evaporative system integrity monitor
- a few mechanics have tried to help, but their memory is fading, and the dealership doesn’t have the info either. I have traced out all
lines under the car a few times and opened the tank access cover in the forward right of the trunk
p0455 code indicating showing small
leak.
so far this has been done:
- J hose on cannister replaced ( hole was found at inside of bend in orig tube ) new clamps
- larger rubber hose hose Solenoid valve on side of charcoal canister, checked electrically and for proof of closure. (l
- evap Solenoid valve near battery, checked for electrical and proof of closure.
2 different gas caps used / checked
all tubing checked.
- filter on filler neck in rear Pax
fender well checked.
I cant find the evap actual pump or the sensor that verifiies the evap syatem is holding pressure suring the test.

can anybody remember where it is or of there is one ??

There is no evap pump that I am aware of on a 2000 C70. I think there was on one the 03/04 years. However, there is a evap valve on the system which is mounted on the rear LH side of the radiator in the engine bay. Battery side of the radiator.

I would expect the evap system to look like this on your car. The item I am referring to is #8 on the drawing:

If you have not had it done, before throwing parts at your car, have he evap system smoked for leaks.

The sensor is on top of the fuel tank under one of those metal plates. One is fuel pump, the other is the tank pressure sensor. There is no active pump to test integrity , it is done with engine vacuum on c70 up to and including 2004

Appreciate the great advice. Scot850 I used your link and then looked at the gas tank diagram as suggested by.Abscate. -
When I looked in behind the left rear seat from the trunk - there is a second access cover above rhe tank . - when I get it open, I’ll update this post with what I find - just wanted to reach out and say thanks for the direction.

I removed the rear seat, and accessed the 2nd cover. this cover reveals a second similar round access to the tank. there is loose metal protection cap over that you need to use a Dremel tool to cut in order to get it it out. below the metal protection cover is a round plastic bezel with two white wires coming out of the top.
The two white wires lead back to the wiring harness marked volvo/ Marwal 9480917 - this appears to be the fuel level sensor. - after unplugging about 30 seconds later the fuel level on the dash will go to zero - when plugged back in about 20 seconds later it shows the fuel level again.
bur no evap sensor yet !!!
It appears I may need to drop the gas tank. - at this point I’m not able to see if there is a sensor that is on the top of the tank. There is a 20mm plastic tube and a wire that leads from the area of fuel level sensor towards the driver side rear seat, but there is no top access to the tank where that goes to.
any more ideas of how to test the sensor ( or trick it with a resistor ). in position or a part # for the sensor or photo of the tank would help.
