I am considering buying a 98 s70 with 75,000 miles. The lady is asking $8900 which I think is a bit much but it seems to be in excellent condition. I have two questions.
1) What problem areas should I look for or what are common problems with this model.
2) What is a reasonable price for this car?
Thank you in advance.

We bought one of these new and now has 127K. A very good car overall. We are planning to drive ours to 250K.
About $8000 would be closer to the retail value unless it is high pressure turbo which is worth more.
Problem areas:
The window/outside mirror controls are made of a soft material that gets sticky with age....just an annoyance.
The power seat controls are problematic on a lot of these cars. Check to see it is working properly.
The mechanical part of the ignition switch usually fails sooner or later and this is a dealer repair (about $200) if you want to keep all locks keyed alike.
Check the records to confirm the timing belt was changed at 70k. If it wasn't then it is a must do right away. Cost is about $180.
There is a little vacuum hose elbow on the passenger side of the manifold (hard to see) that gets punky and colapses or leaks which will set a "mixture to rich" code which if not repaired, can eventually lead to 02 sensor failure. It is a cheap fix so if you get a check engine light don't let it go to long. This was a nusiance area on the 850s also.
Good luck.
