850 Neutral Switch?

Post by miracledog »

I've got a 1995 850 with 179k on it. Sometimes it won't start unless I repeatedly wiggle the shifter and beg. Also, the reverse lights are out. I'm getting the idea through my research that this might be a "neutral switch". Is that the correct name/ term? Where is it located? How much do they run? Any help is greatly appreciated! This is my 3rd Volvo and I've never encountered this one before![/b]

Sounds like the PNP (Park Neutral Position) switch. Sometimes refered to as "pretty Nasty Problem" because replacing it is a little involved, but like most everything it is doable with patience. Do a search on the above. Once it is replaced your reverse lights should work again too.
