How to i get the "check engine" light to disappear?
There is no dealer in my area and I don't have a dealy to read into the computer system in the car. I have a 98 c70 volvo which has the ever reoccuring problem of having the gas cap trigger the light to come on.
Any ideas??? Please please please help.
Worst case scenario can I simply remove the bulb from the"check engine" light??????

Go to your local auto parts store (i.e. Pep Boys, Autozone) and they'll read and reset your codes for free.

Just had a mechanic do it. He told me to unhook both terminals, and then touch them together for 15 seconds, or so, and then rehook them to the battery.

I read at this site in another thread that this is potentially dangerous to the vehicle electrical system. Anyone else care to weigh in on this?floryed wrote:Just had a mechanic do it. Many parts houses will read the codes stored in your computer but in many states it is against the law for a parts house to reset the codes. If you do get it reset without fixing the problem the codes will come back.J Lee b wrote:How to i get the "check engine" light to disappear?

If the parts house will not read the codes go to a emissions check station and they will usually read them for $10. Or go to a Tune Up Clinic and pay $25 to have them read - they will also repair for additional $$ if you are not comfortable working on your car. For whatever the reason of the code you do need to get it fixed.
