Not really, just make sure to mark the shaft (on both ends) where it is mounted and make sure it goes back in the same position
(for balancing purposes)

Thanks for your reply but i think ive finally got it figured out, dealer price for the driveshaft is 963. and ive found a reliable remanufactured for 460. should not be too difficult . I just am praying it is not the viscus drive back...but 2 non volvo mechanics believe it is the cv joint in rear and at 142,000 miles its only a matter of time before the u joint or bearing goes anyway...nick

FINALLY!!! Someone that has a similiar problem to mine. What symptoms do you have? Tires dragging in rear when turning? I replaced the viscous coupling already, wasn't the problem, When I turn sharp right or left going forward or reverse I'm getting a dragging sound from my rear tires like I'm driving a 4X4 Pickup on dry pavement. Where can you get the driveshaft so cheap? I'm thinking of replacing mine as well. Some say it may be the angle gear, any and all help would be appreciated. My help to you on parts, www.erievovo.com. Thanks
Anthony

Hello our symtoms sound similar, mine is a grinding noise when coasting and clicking when slow speed turning. I have spent a lot of time under there and talked with 2 non volvo mechanics and believe it to be either the rear cv joint or the U joint... sometimes it is hard to pinpoint the exact location along the shaft as the sound can reverberate, making it sound like its in the rear ; that said I have have found a man named Dave in colorado who a mechanic friend of mine recomends who rebuilds them. from the front bearing the u joint and rear cv joint better than new. His price is 460.00 and volvo wants 963.00 if i buy it from them. It is a piece of cake to remove( 6 bolts in fron 6mm alan and 6 in the rear. in the middle where the u joint is there is a shield u can remove one side of it enough to get new shaft in. very easy. just make sure you copy install from youre removal. He markes which is front and which is rear. here is his Phone number he said if anyone calls tell them i told you to call my name is nick and just purchased it last thursday..because he normaly deals with shops ... but he doesnt accept credit cards but will ship c o d. having said all that im still not 100 percent sure it is not my viscus drive. but i am 99.9 eventhough at 142000. miles its only a matter of time. so im doing it anyway. any further questions u can e mail me at [email protected] I hope it helps...Nick oh his number is (303) 297-0264 remember he is on denver time...and hIs name is Dave...its all they do...let me know how it turns out.. cant beat the price for an easy job a non mechanic can do...
