leak from hole in engine head

Post by Tlopez » Tue May 25, 2010 7:55 pm

I have recently had my engine rebuilt, however there is now a leak coming from the "open " hole between the 2 & 3 spark plugs, i can't find a reference from any pictures as to what this hole is or does, my mechanic wants to fill it with jb weld! I really don't agree, any advice?

That hole really isn't a hole - it is just a place where the excessive oil blowing out of the oil cap from either a bad oil cap gasket or a clogged PCV pools.

That hole is where a hose from the PCV system is supposed to go to connect to the oil trap. If you are missing that, then you're gonna be blowing oil all over the place! That needs to be fixed asap since now your PCV system isn't working as it should. Sounds like when they rebuilt the engine, they didn't put the PCV together properly!

The top arrow here shows the hose that is supposed to be connected to your open hole. The lower arrow shows the PCV oil separator that the hose is supposed to be connected to.

that hose is connected, the one I'm refering to is on top of the engine head between the 2 and 3 spark plugs.

There was some version of the emissions control hat had some weird valve in that position hence what looks like a flange on the top of the cam cover to accept it, The hole really isn't a hole unless you have that specific emissions system. I'm sorry I can't recall the emissions code that is applicable.

so if it is an overflow "hole" then the new glue gasket that he just did is bad? we cleaned the pcv filter, but it leaks a lot, about a cup a day.

this sounds close too, we had it tested on the computer and it said there was a problem with the emissions control sensor, any way this could be tied altogether?
