1) inside the car
2) yes

This step is in "alignment and reinstallation," but it can be made trivially easy by a little prep at the beginning, during disassembly. The adjustment is all achieved via the two outer bolts. As suggested elsewhere in this thread, before you start use a Sharpie and draw on the PNP body a nice tight outline around the hex heads. When you reassemble, put the outlines back under the hex bolts, then tighten it up. This way, you get the factory placement every time. I've done three switches this way, never had to give adjustment any thought at all. Just bolt them back up, they work as they should.

Technically no, according to this write up you begin with the gear selector in Park.

Great write up thank you very much! I was able to rebuild my switch by starting and ending in neutral. This took care of my flashing arrow. Sharpie marking helped out.

I have read this forum and replaced the PNP switch today. All went well until I reconnected the battery, I had everything aligned as it came out with the clean bolt spots covered. I opened the door and the emergency flashers started flashing, I turned the key on to start the motor, nothing but all lights in the dash came on, I was able to shift the shifter to reverse, got back up lights, got all gears as I moved the shifter. Would not try to start at all. I went back in and adjusted the switch and cable position, no luck to start the motor, still had back up lights. I pulled it all back out, checked the switch, ( used ) check the old switch, cleaned it put it back in, still flashes back on, lights in the dash and no ranking in park or neutral. Puzzled to what I have done now, Any Ideas?

You may have tripped your alarm. Lock and then unlock your door with the key, see if that helps.

+1

Flashers going off and no start usually points to the alarm/immobilizer.

I had the flashing arrow but otherwise no other symptoms of a faulty PNP. Decided to take it out and clean it for the heck of it. I cleaned it up, filed the contacts and greased it. After i re-installed it, im back where i started. Everything works fine, including being able to start in neutral but i STILL have the light. Anyone have a possible explanation for this light?

Thanks!

Is the CEL on as well and have you read the codes?

No check engine light and my code reader is coming in the mail, any possible explanations with this info?
Thank you!
