I've had my Platinum wagon (103k) for 6 weeks now and did a lot to get her back in shape. Boy, its a lot work...
I had coolant leaking from driver side first, which was resulted from a torn turbo coolant inlet hose and a heat core hose connection.
Now, I have a massive leaking from the pass side as I was cleaning/flushing the system,
I'm 90% sure its the water pump, but my experience in this area is limited, would be other possibilities? Suggestions and expertise are appreciated!
BTW, the guy I brought from (he runs a small Volvo shop) told me that, he just replaced the t-belt but no mention about the water pump and other stuff (my guess is they are as old as the car).
TIA!
Coolant Leaking again, but from the other side...

Al,
From the pictures it is the water pump. I have done just fine with the Hepu pumps in my fleet and they are quite a bit cheaper than the OEM version. The '94 has nearly 100k on the replacement Hepu.
I would consider parking the car until it is fixed. Only one of my Volvos had a pump that was actually leaking when I changed it but my wife had a Chrysler Concord that ate a water pump and at the point it started leaking it ate the timing belt within 5 miles as I tried to drive it home. Fortunately that was a full clearance engine and I didn't take out the valves. All of the 850s are not full clearance engines and, as you well know, it will be "game over" if the belt breaks.

I concur its the water pump as that is located right above the leak area. If you replace the water pump replace the timing belt as you need to remove that anyway.
Good luck.
Good luck.
Life would be enjoyable if it wasn't so painful to live.

Thanks guys!
Its good to have confirmation on the water pump. Lee, I was wondering about the price diff. between Hepu and OEM. Thanks for the info. The car has been on stands for a couple weeks now, looks need at least another week before she can go outside play

Well, the belt looks brand new and has Volvo stamp on it. I might keep the belt for now but replace the idler, roller and tensioner alone with the pump. Thanks for your advise.Red-Arrow wrote:If you replace the water pump replace the timing belt as you need to remove that anyway.
