So a young, inexperienced driver caused an accident two days ago involving my drivers side front end. The air bags deployed, broke the windshield and glovebox. I saw coolant coming out up front, so radiator damage, left fender, hood, headlight, etc.. The car was towed Friday, so I won't get to really look at it till Monday.
I guess what I need to know is, When the air-bags deploy, what needs to be done to get everything back in order. I read somewhere that the seatbelts need replacing, sensors, etc...
It's very unfortunate, as I had the car almost completely straightened out when this young girl made an illegal left turn blindlly through traffic right in front of me. the impact was probably around 30 MPH.
I'll consider parting it out, or dumping the whole thing if I see too much is needed. It's really a shame because I had the interior and exterior in beautifull shape after hunting down parts and wrenching all summer.
So yeah, what should I know about resetting air-bags? I guess I can start there.
Thanks.

Both front belts, whole dash, driver's airbag and contact reel and maybe a steering wheel. RH airbag and cover.
It is totalled as those parts and labor will likely exceed 70% of the market value of car before you to body repairs.

Definitely totaled from an insurance standpoint but if the damage is limited to replaceable body panels it might be worth it to you. ANY damage to cars these old will total them due to their age, low value yet parts tend to be pricey.

So when you say "Whole Dash", are we talking about everything that has to do with the dashboard, or the dashpad, airbag, speakers, mounts and associated parts. I am not worried about insurance. I did the original work, and would be doing it again. I am more concerned with what needs to be replaced when the air bags are deployed to get everything functioning normal.jimmy57 wrote:Both front belts, whole dash, driver's airbag and contact reel and maybe a steering wheel. Yes the whole dash. When the pass side bag deploys it would be very unusual for it to not crack the structure of the dash. It would do that when these cars were less than year old and the dashes weren't cracking from hitting a bump like they do now.

Based on your description, it might be beyond reasonable repair. The way I look at it, it's sort of like a bike helmet. You can crash and hit your head hard, and even though the helmet may only have a few scratches, you should replace it. There is often a lot of damage that you cannot see on the surface. If you were hit hard enough for the bags to deploy, I would definitely be worrying about the frame being bent or cracked.

Well, It really is a shame. I had only done the last run of Mcquires on the car the day before the accident. and now it is hitory. If that won't test your resolve? It was not insured yet, i was only gettig gas to do some code resetting when it happened. It is at the tow yard and I may leave it there, so I may be soon listing a very recently nice '93 850 for salvage.

Ouch!!! Real sad story but the lession here is that you can't, can't, can't. drive a car without some kind of insurance on it. Form the 1st post I knew the car was a total loss, I've had a few and use to work at a body shop long long time ago. The link here shows a S70 that was totalled. If that was totalled I knew your's was.
Did they fault the other driver for the accident? Sad to say, if they did, they may still pay you for your car.

Yes, the other driver was a young girl. I imagine texting, while cutting across three lanes over a double yellow line, and the left turning lane that I was proceeding through.rspi wrote:Ouch!!! A 93?
It was almost totaled before you had the accident
93s aren't worth much and you're just would be spending good money after bad
...and parting it out may not be too much of an option.
Many/most 93 parts do not fit on 94s and newer
