Remote Starter

Post by samsson101 »

HI ...New to the group. I am trying to install a remote starter in my 95 850 GLE. Will I need some kind of bypass for the security system?

I put a remote start in my 94 850. The inly tricky part was figuring out how the alarm was disarmed. I ended up tapping into the wires from the driver's door lock cylinder. The alarm module needed to see a ground signal showing the key was in the lock while recieving the unlock signal. My remote start unlocks my doors, starts the car, and then re-locks the doors. It was the only way I could keep the factory alarm installed.

The car is automatic. I installed the unit, but it doesn't seem to want to acknowledge the transmitter. It seems to power up normally and responds to the hood switch

Thanks Bill....got the starter working , but if I try to start it with the doors locked , it sets of the alarm. Did you use a relay to bypass the locked door.

I had to splice a pair of relays and diodes between the drivers door lock/unlock and the factory lock/unlock module to get it to start without setting off the alarm. Negative (-) signal from either the remote's lock or unlock trigger the proper relay to lock or unlock the door without setting off the alarm. The system also briefly unlocks the car to start, and then relocks after started. I tried every possible blue/brown wire in my car attempting to find the factory alarm disarm wire, with zero success. Guy on Volvospeed hooked me up with the proper relay set up for my car/remote. I'll see if I can find the wiring diagram for ya.

Sorry, I forgot about this. I dug around but couldn't find my notes, so I made a new diagram.

If you haven't already seen this thread, there's some decent pontificating in it:
https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums/vie ... =1&t=26454

That solved the lock/unlock issue, but I still couldn't get around the factory alarm. After MUCH research, and trial and error I got it sorted.

Here's how I got everything to work. All credit goes to Ghostshadow on VS. He's the man that got me pointed in the right direction. My doors lock and unlock, and my alarm doesn't go off when started remotely. Wire colors in the diagram are completely arbitrary. One side note, that's kind of quirky, when I press the "lock" button on my aftermarket remote, my doors, lock, unlock, and then lock again... weird, but they lock. Edit: after writing that, I believe I still have the "lock" trigger set to double pulse, that's probably why it does that, I'll reprogram and see if that doesn't fix it.

The alarm arm/disarm is triggered by 2 seperate signals from the door locks. There is a switch in the lock cylinder to signal that a key is in the lock cylinder. When the alarm module sees this signal grounded along with a lock/unlock signal it will arm/disarm the alarm. I had to tie the alarm and lock feeds together with both signals when I wired my remote start. Now, my system unlocks the doors, starts the car, and then relocks the doors.
