I've been a Mobile-1 guy for as long as I've been around these cars. It has less to do with science than with just knowing your putting the best stuff possible in your car.
The other day I discovered that Redline makes motor oil and it's better than what I've been using. I have never liked extending Oil Change intervals past 3k regardless of my oil quality. If I'm going to change at 3k anyway, would Redline offer me any benefit over Mobil-1, however slight?

If you're using and changing synthetic at 3K miles it won't make a darn difference, your engine should be sparkling clean inside
and it's Mobil 1, not MobilE 1 (FYI).
Even I don't change it that often, I do a 4-4500 mile oil change with Mobil 1 on my cars

There is some very compelling data regarding Redline and its ability to prevent engine wear. It costs significantly more than other oils but tests are showing that metals left behind in this oil even after extended periods of use are far less than other oils including full synthetic.
Of course you had better do the research yourself but everything I've seen so far about Redline is very positive.
Imagine changing oil only every 3 years or so!! I could go on holidays with the accumulated time saved.

I've never heard of anyone having a oil related failure if they're using a high quality synthetic, keep it topped off and change it regularly. You can switch to red line but in the big scheme of things, does it really make any difference? It sound like you're already doing everything right.
I use 5w40 diesel synthetic (Rotella, Mobil, Delo... whatever is on sale) once a year, regardless of mileage.

The 3k change interval is left over from the 1950's when it was necessary. But oils and engines have improved dramatically since then. It used to be that an engine with 100,000 miles on it was worn out, but today that's nothing. Harder materials, tighter tolerances, better alloys, better design, and better oils have made engines the most durable part of cars. When was the last time you actually saw a modern engine that was worn out when it had even minimal care? Today the rest of the car is what limits the car's life, not the engine.
Slavishness to 3k oil changes today is not necessary, in my opinion.. Spending even MORE money on better oil than Mobil 1 with such short change intervals is borderline obsessive compulsive. Again, just my opinion, do what you want - but you could run any old dino oil in your engine with 3k oil changes.

I have a GMC Truck, 2003, little V6 that's used mainly around town with a once a month highway run. I use Mobil-1 0W30 in it and change at 7500 or once a year. This truck's engine still runs as good as the day I bought it with 28,000 and now at 190,000. I've decided to go to M1 in my 98 V70 with the same 7500 mile change schedule after changing the first time at 5K.
Synth oil seems to last forever. And yes, I do use it again in my yard equipment. I even used the old oil as chain lube on the chain saw, messy as hell and frequent refills but it works.

6-7500 change intervals for me. Still looks brand new at 3000 (usually have to add a 1/2 a quart then).

LOL. That was a good idea. Why didn't I think of that?jimmy57 wrote:Can I come get that 3000 mile used oil from you? I'd run it another 5K in my cars. Then I'd drain and run it in my lawn mowers.....

AT 3,000 miles any of the good quality name brands should do especially:

Myself I have been using 714 20W transmission oil since 1998 and engine oil earlier.
Independent Volvo uses the majority of it's products. I use to change at 7.5K in the early day but changed to once a year.
