Remove Negative Battery terminal, after finding radio code.

Image

Drop steering wheel DOWN and OUT, if applicable

Remove three Torx 20 screws from bottom of steering wheel cover

Image

Pop open two halves of cover and ease of bottom piece. Leave upper piece in place, per Alldata

Now remove electrical connector, just pull firmly to left. Remove two Torx 25 screws holding in switch (forget to photograph this, sorry. You can see screw holes in the picture.

Image

New switch will go on only one way - note lugs on switch that pick up lugs in casing

Image

Push new switch on firmly, there should be no gap between electrical switch and mount, as shown. Replace 2x Torx 25 screws before reinstalling electrical connector.

Reinstall electrical socket with pressure, replace steering wheel cover and 3 Torx 20 screws under cover.

Nice write up!

I had a little surprise when I removed the lower half of the steering wheel cover (step 2). When I took the three T20 screws out, the recessed holes literally fell apart. The plastic was all dry and brittle. I ended up glueing it all back together with a glue gun and laminated flatwashers into the holes to make them stronger. Volvo must have used cheap plastic for these parts

Replaced!
the ignition key feels firm at insert and turning at each position.
No more...
- light flicker,
- delay at headlights,
- delay clearing ABS and Tracs OFF at dash,
- scattered display of shift panel center console lights
- periodic loss pedal and shift

Bravo Zulu

Drink Swedish beer in celebration

Edited for beer referral
Steve-- Even the Swedes don't drink Swedish beer. It is that bad. Think Coors Lite, only worse. They resort to fine Danish alternatives, Carlsberg and Tuborg. Pripps Bla (missing diacritical mark) was awful when I was there, but that was four decades ago, so they've had time to improve.

would it help to go back in and apply a coat of di-electic grease to each pin?
Swedish beer would feel even better.
