Re: 1999 S70 runs then dies (1Wagon post)

Post by 1Wagon »

Hello,
I have a 99 V70 that is doing the same thing. I am going to remove clamshell and clean the antenna ring/plug. My next step is to check the fuel pump relay. I am nurse, not a mechanic. Please tell me how to find and connect "#15 and #87" points.

Thanks in advance.

Amy - If you can find the fuel pump relay, pull it up and look carefully at the plastic around the connections - you will see the labels 15 and 87.

The safest way to jump is to make up a wire with the two spade lugs and a fuse so that you are sending the voltage direct from the 15 to the 87 terminal, instead of through the relay.

I will try and find a picture - one posted recently.

Remove T-25 screws
Remove T-25 screws
Okay Nurse Amy.

I couldnt find pix but since I was in listen mode on a boring conf call I went out and shot my 1999 V70

Hood up.
Open fuse panel directly in front of driver
Remove four Torx T-25 screws from top of fusebox cover
Find Pink Fuel Pump relay, labelled "fuel pump relay"
Pull up to remove. It will only go in one way.
Look at bottom for terminal connections - remember to turn them in your head to ID them in the relay holder. You can use a paper clip to carefully connect the 15 and 87 terminals in the fuse box. Watch out as the paper clip can get hot from the current going through it - use pliers to pull it out when done. Put the clip in with the ignition OFF. Turn OFF before removing.

Wonder why mechanics get paid $115 an hour to do this.

PIctures below - I messed the order up, sorry.

Okay,
I have the hood up, fuse cover off, pink fuel pump relay removed. Now I take a paper clip and connect 15 and 87 while ignition off? Then what? Turn car on?

Going to buy fuel relay on FCP Groton site. Don't the forum members receive a slight discount or am I confusing with iPD?

I think you have to hit 99 bucks to get the FCP discount. Or call them up and ask for the RN discount plan. Add in an air filter, cabin filter, and 5spark plugs and you should be pretty close.

I ordered part. We shall see if that was the fix. If so, I will let you now so you can change thread to "resolved" status.

No RN (aka human mechanic) discount given. Ha!
