Nivomat isn't exclusive to the V70Rs. I've seen a '98 V70R without the Nivomats. My V70 AWD (non-R) has Nivomat. There are a couple threads around for which non-Nivomat shocks/springs to get if you're doing a conversion. Also bear in mind, lower control-arm is different for Nivomat equipped models (at least on my 98), it all mounts differently up top as well as below.

Make sure the thing has a rear driveshaft. Runs on the PS next to the exhaust. Should be pretty obvious if it's missing.

Just remembered, a great thing about the 99s is the service reminder light that comes one for the first minute of driving can be easily reset. On the 98s, it requires a special computer to reset. However, on the 99s do this:
-press and hold trip button
-insert key, turn to 2nd position
-when service reminder light starts flashing, stop holding trip button

Easy Peasy to deal with the service light on a 1998 V70R. Just remove the under desk cover and driver knee protection. Reach up inside, and remove the bulb.
