Valeo Radiator Part Numbers 98 V70 XC

Post by superfeed » Tue Feb 09, 2016 9:18 am

Really hurting for cash, but I see so many bad reviews of Nissens and Behr, seems very hit or miss.

Can anybody tell me if the Valeo 732365 or 732344 are the correct part numbers for Volvo 8603770, which is what I believe is the correct OEM radiator for the car?

Thanks,
John Gregory

I don't know exactly, but in looking up those two rads it looks like 732365 does not have coolers on both sides, but the 732344 does. A 98 V70 turbo rad has coolers on both sides, one for oil and one for trans fluid. Also, I see listings of 732344 for fitting turbo 850s, and those rads are indeed interchangeable (i.e., they use exactly the same part).

Much more likely that 732344 is correct. Is there a source with a good price on it? The Volvo branded one is $257 plus shipping here http://volvopartslisle.com/part/OEM-Vol ... 0/Radiator.

For what it's worth, I'm very happy with my Nissens. Fit fine and it's not broken or anything.

I had no ancillary connections like a turbo or transmission cooler, so if that's what gives people trouble I guess my opinion isn't very helpful.

Does the '98 cars have a split in the year for oil coolers as well?

Nissens on my 1999 has been good for me to. Another one with no oil hoses ( manual transmission, biscuit oil cooler)

Nope, no split on the oil coolers in 98, always in the rad.

The complaints you will find are about the usual, fitment and/or longevity. Not everyone complains, it is frustratingly inconsistent. However there are almost no complaints about the Valeo/Volvo rad.

I put the nissens in my 98 v70 T5 about a year ago and all is well... I didn't have fitmament issues that I recall and I am far from being what I would call a "good" mechanic, lol.

I bought from FCP because I figured if the rad was bad they would replace it for free to keep from making me mad :D

For immediate financial purposes only (the S80 needs a timing belt/crank seal job and the 244's front lower spring mount collapsed from rust and is now resting on the tire), I went with the Nissens. The fits seemed perfect, FCP even included 4 new metal clips for the oil cooler and transmission lines.

I did it from the top, seemed quite straightforward. No leaks. Yay!!!

But after getting the job completed, the car didn't want to stay running! lol Reminded me of when the car had a bad fuel pump relay. It finally did go, only to quit on me 1/2 mile away. After sitting for a minute or two, the car started and made it home.

Could any of those electrical connections I was messing with around the fan or in the front cause a problem like that?

Thank you all for your input.

John

There is a master fuel system relay under the shroud, the gray one, connections need to be good on that one. While you are looking around I would try jumpering the fuel pump relay at the windshield, too.
