So the last vid indicates spark, hooked up coil lead and sure enough, now it fires up..?!!
What could possibly lead it to need 2 minutes of cranking before spark comes along?

Let's try that spark check with a plug attached and grounded with a wire and see if it's still erratic

Re: 97` 850 R manual swap, long crank time FIXED!!!  Topic is solved

FIXED!!!

Drumroll....

It was the crank sensor polarity.

Auto flexplate with square trigger holes as the newer flywheels. Install an old flywheel with round trigger holes and you`ll want to reverse sensor polarity.
However, it will fire with wrong polarity, crank time is looonger and your timing will be off.

Do you know what brand/ part number the short belt is? This would be useful to know, several people were looking for a short belt to bypass the a/c compressor.

De nada :-)

If you do this, crimp and solder the wires for trouble free DD

And for the love of GOD, keep the auto ECU, the revhang in the manual ECU sux.
Cannot even begin to describe how much better auto ECU driveability is on a manual swapped car than one high mileage 850 original manual with rev hang.

Total control of torque and revs with pedal beats ECU interference, especially during gear change..

I manual swapped my 850 2 years ago and ever sense my volvo would crank for soooo long, sometimes a scary long time (not very fun to experience on road trips). This post is a life saver, i had no idea about the different flywheels, now it fires up within a second!

I'm in the middle of my manual swap on the '97 T5 and wonder if this is going to be an issue.

My car is no longer an M4.3 (Swapped M4.4 a while back) and it's going COP in the process.
I know the M4.4 started quicker, due to the system remembering where is was and not having to find #1 first (like the M4.3), which resulted in shorter start times.

I suppose it won't hurt to swap polarity, regardless.
