1998 V70 M56 parts car question

Post by darylrobert » Fri Apr 22, 2016 5:24 am

Ive bought myself a parts car, manuals are getting very hard to find here so I snapped this up quick smart online without test driving it. The seller said he hadn't driven it for 12 months but it drove fine then.

So today I tested it and couldn't engage any of the gears, clutch feels okay and the external slave is moving the fork. funny thing is let the car roll abit and it goes into gear or turn the motor off and it goes into gear but with engine running and at a standstill no gears engage.

On a flat surface in gear and clutch pedal pressed it doesn't roll even at 3-4k rpm

Clutch bad or gearbox faulty??

Sounds like the clutch disk might be seized to the flywheel. How about this: Make sure the area is clear in front of the car. Then try starting the car in gear, with clutch pedal in. If the car lurches forward, disk is seized. Just the abrupt action of starting in gear might break it loose, but you could also crank it with clutch pedal in and foot on brake, to see if that releases it. Be careful!

Have you changed the fluid and bled the clutch? That would be the first thing to do.
With the car running and clutch pedal fully pressed, try putting it in first gear as you slowly rev the motor up to like 3500rpm, Kind of like if the trans did not have syncros or you where rev matching. What about the other gears?
If you can get it in gear it would seem to me to be the clutch is not fully disengaging.
Small chance, but the syncros might be completely shot.

Milehigh - he says the clutch feels normal, and the fork is moving properly when pedal depressed, so it sounds like the clutch hydraulics are doing their job. We'll need to wait for an updated from daryl.

the slave cylinder is leaking, the rubber boot had some fluid in it but not much, being a parts car I am not interested in buying new parts for it. When I rev the car to 3500rpm like Milehigh said it shifts into gear, then once moving I can select other gears using the pedal without any grinding but not when stopped. I have started it in gear and bleed the clutch but its still the same.
