Remote key and alarm V70 1997

Hi,

I bought my 1997 V70 NA without a remote entry key. On my window is a sticker that says 'Volvo Guard', I think my keys are the 'thicker' type with chip in it, and I have the red LED in the center of the dash close to the front window. The LED is always off, never saw it flash or anything. I did look behind the glovebox, no receiver (?) unit there, but there are the not connected plugs for it (I think). I attached a screenshot from the 'alarm unit' in my V70 (installed under the dash/knee protector).

I do have the remote key from another V70 from the same year. My question is if I can somehow make those work (5 x times key switch thing, dealer, ... ?)

I read what I could find about these systems, but I am really confused since it changed it seems from 850 to V70 and also in later V70 years.

Would be great to be able to locked/unlock the car without going to the drivers door each time (3 little kids ... ).

Thanks,

Caspar

That's the immobilizer relay.

Adding on the receiver for the "Zentralverriegelung" shouldn't be a problem, me thinks, though it might need some programming. Tbh, buying the accessory with new remotes will most likely not be much different, as to price, than getting parts, installing, and having that old key reprogrammed.

Fernbedienungssatz
433,92 MHz N* 9184 799-6
433,92 MHz F* 9192 330-0
433,92 MHz T* 9192 331-8
314,35 MHz P* 9451 476-7

Since you're in Germany, "T*" is the one you need.
Note that "Die Kabel für die Fernbedienung sind in andere Komponenten im Fahrzeug für die Zentralverriegelung und die Alarmanlage integriert, was maximale Zuverlässigkeit und Dauerhaftigkeit garantiert." I.e. "The wiring for the remote control is integrated with other components in the car for central locking and alarm, which guarantees maximum reliability and durability."

So you def. need some programming done.

Hi Sommerfeldt,

vielen Dank für Deine Antwort!

So, are you suggesting that I get a receiver + remote control - in which case I would not need any programming ? Where would the receiver go ? I guess my car does not have one. Would it go behind the glove box as in a 850 ?

Would be great to avoid the dealer for reprogramming, of course.

Nicolas

No probs. :)

BUT on further investigation, it seems that the '97 models can be a bit tricky, since Volvo changed their systems for alarms/immobilizers/central locking both for 97 late 850s and V70s. Most people with 97's seems to have had to check with Volvo to get the right systems. Call your nearest Volvo dealer, and check with them which system will match your car - they'll probably want your registration number or VIN to look it up.

Don't buy anything from them unless you have to, though - there's lots of these components available through cheaper channels, both eBay and others. :)

Hm - I might just put in an aftermarket rf-control to override the 'lock all' button in the car, as others here did. 20 Euro, easy to do.

And I would not need to mess with the alarm system. Seems to be quite complex ;) - and I certainly would not want this to fail.

Thanks again.

Installed this 'JOM 7105-1 Keyless Open'

http://www.amazon.de/JOM-Funkfernbedien ... B003QGFJGU

behind the glove box, overwrites the 'lock' button in the door - works nicely.
