My car is original, bought back in 2000 from a familly friend with 69k km.
It have Motronic 4.4 pretty rare for 850.
It came from the factory with 16" Persus wheel...also pretty rare....usually they come with 15" with n/a engine.
It came with front fog lights(spot lights) from the factory.

Car is not manufactured "by order".
I also thought that all 850s came from factory without chipped keys....i found out that i was wrong....they actually had them...like i said....from '96.

You will find out that you're wrong too....if you want to accept that.
Windows replaced. That's it. All other parts I've had off are marked either late '95 (some interior panels/parts) or some time in '96. If you actually do things yourself, you'll see little paper "price tags" scattered around with production dates on them.
Sounds like your car is more out of the ordinary than mine, buddy. M4.4 is not normal on 850s, at least not European ones. Mine has the regular sized T5 wheels, stock everything except the windows, and an R model wing and bumper.

Why would the cars not be manufactured "by order"? Are you saying that you couldn't order a car with various accessories (like immobilizer, alarm, rails, wheels, etc)? Or that Volvo couldn't customize both interior and exterior for you?

I've had 3 850s, none of them with immobilizers. The fact is that the immobilizer is in the accessories catalogue, and that it was an option. I.e. you could order it when you bought the car, or have it installed at a later date. It was by no means standard.

Yea I pinched the 210 relay out of my 960 parts car so that is no longer an issue. The R has one of those horrible rubber type keys which starts to disintegrate after this long. Think the wags had one as in the picture previous.

Sommerfeldt...that attitude will not take you anywhere.
I see that you don't have a problem just with me...you have it with anybody who doesn't share your opinion. You just don't accept that you're wrong. That's your problem, not the problem of this forum.

We ruined this topic, but you just can't let it go.

EVERY 1997 Volvo 850 B5254S have Motronic 4.4 ecu, there is NOTHING strange about it IF you know these cars.

Quote from Wikipedia:
* B5254S: 1992–95 have Bosch LH 3.2. In 1996, both Bosch LH 3.2 and Bosch Motronic 4.4 was fitted. As of 1997 only Bosch Motronic 4.4 was fitted.

Here is some afternoon reading for you about Volvo 850:

Scroll down to : Software module 46 - Volvo IMMO1 - startspärr / immo box Bosch.

Quote from http://www.volvoforums.org.uk :
...from '96 all cars were supplied with a chip in the key immobilizer system.
...except for U.S market cars.

Chipped key and immobiliser can be by-passed (if you know how)...for example... in order to install remote starting via alarm remote, but ONLY on cars with auto transmission. After by-passing,you can use a regular(non chipped) key to start and drive the car.

I can tell you this....maybe sometimes in the past the ignition switch was replaced along with a key and immobiliser was disabled.
Maybe the chip from the key is removed and was put in antenna ring around the ignition lock and regular key is used.Maybe the engine was replaced along with wiring.....maybe someone lost original key and installed wiring from older 850....etc,etc,etc...OR ecu was simply re-programed and immo function disabled this way.

Like you said....T5 should be equipped with all mumbo-jumbo things being a performance model, but that's NOT always like that.I've been seeing T5 models with manual headlight settings, without heating seats, without chrome sills...etc.

I suppose that you heard about "R" with 2.0 turbo engine made especially for Itallian market.

We can do this all day long but we are ruining original topic.

Misha - my car hasn't been done anything like that to. And I actually have a '96, unlike you. And I've had other 850s without immobilizer. And I've never actually seen an 850 with immobilizer around here. And it's in the accessories catalogue. So, I think that your forum post links will get you nowhere. From this thread, it seems like you have the more non-standard 850, and from earlier posts and threads, I have the distinct impression that you're the one with the problem accepting when you're wrong.
The reason you're seeing T5s and Rs with/without things, is that Volvo actually make cars to order. Crazy, I know.

A-ha....they don't have chipped keys because you actually didn't saw one yet?!Now i get it. ;)

I have non standard 850 with motronic 4.4? They are all motronic 4.4 in '97!!! :D

Forum links, quotes are just a piece of proof that i'm talking the facts and truth. To a reasonable person they are more than enough.I'm not claiming something because i just didn't saw it yet.

Just one more possibillity is that your 850 is for Dutch market only....they are pretty strange with equipment level and pretty non standard. For european market....all what i said before.

My S70 is motronic 4.4...the only chip is in the antenna ring in the ignition spot - where you insert your key. Your key is not chipped until European year 1998...that's '99 for the U.S. market. Just get a key laser cut and it will work on your model. How do I know- I had to have some made for my car...VIN # at the dealer- yes, they ask for your VIN- they charge you for the look up of your PIN- that's all- there is no software download.

You're the one who was talking about how weird your 850 is. Also... Dutch market only? Where were you during geography lessons? :? I don't know why you're so caught up in the M4.4 - that's not the issue. You keep spouting that ALL '96 850s came with immobilizers. That's simply a big, fat, Serbian lie. My current one doesn't have it, my 2 previous ones didn't have them, and I've never seen an 850 with an immobilizer.

It was an optional accessory, which means that OPs might have one, but I don't think it's in any way a given that it does. If it was ordered with one - sure. But it's just not standard. At all. It's an accessory. Hence the accessories catalogue.

Maybe there is some language barrier here... Misha: Fully equipped is not standard. Because your car is fully equipped it came with the immobilizer, probably have an alarm LED at the windshield and so on.

The standard 850, or call it the basic 850, was delivered without all of that, but you could pay to get it put on the car when you ordered it from the dealership.
