V70 front brakepad and rotor disc replacement -- cost $460

Post by Selvi » Thu Jun 23, 2016 12:32 pm

I need to get my V70 front and rear brake pads and rotor disc replaced. The replacement cost estimate quoted by a mechanic shop is $460 for the front.
This includes a set of brake pads ($180), 2 rotor disk ($170), labor ($110).

Are the estimates correct?

Total price isn't bad but not at that breakdown. Probably more like

Pads 50
2 rotors 100
2 hours labor 230

Total 380, 410 with tax.

Here in europe original Volvo pads are around 90 a set, and discs 110. So $200 for the parts meaning you can save more than half the cost if you can do this job yourself, which is not that difficult and rewarding to do.

+1 to this. I did this not long ago, and even with one frozen caliper (also changed that myself) it was a breeze. Couple of hours if you haven't done it before.

Brembo kit is less than $250 and even includes the brake fluid, lube and even the lines- everything you need!
If you already have many of these, or don't need the lines, it's even cheaper!!
Shipping is free!!
You can also source these parts on Amazon- if you do that, please use the MVS link to give back to the forum.
The OEM pads are made by JURID and although others often use ceramic pads (Akebono), I have found OEM to work best on my Volvo's
